In Good Taste: Very Schemely

mood: geeky

I'm a programmer.  In particular, I'm a programming language
geek.  I can obsess forever about what I like, and don't like,
about different programming languages.

I don't like "language wars", though: arguments, usually containing
much more heat than light, about what is the "best" programming
language.  To me, that is a meaningless question; it's not just
that I don't like to argue about it, I don't even have an opinion on
it.  Whatever floats your boat, let a hundred flowers bloom, one
geek's meat is another geek's poison, you get the idea.

But do I have a favorite?  Well, I sorta have two: Java and
Scheme.  Even from a personal perspective, I can't say that I
like one of those "better" than the other.  It depends on my
mood, and on what I'm trying to accomplish at the time.

Scheme is kind of a sentimental favorite, though.  Could be
because there are a lot fewer people who like it, or even know
it.  To me, that gives it a greater cool factor; I've always
tended to be more comfortable being somewhat out of the mainstream.

So, not too surprising that the first LiveJournal "community" I
joined, and so far, still the only, is Schemers.  Check it out,
if you're curious, though as of today, there isn't much there yet.

Not that anyone should be surprised by that.  Scheme doesn't
generate a lot of hits on Monster.com, either.

This post is supposed to have an alternate userpic. Don't know why that didn't "take". Argh.

Yep, the picture with the comment is the one I wanted to have with the original post.
